May 13, 2013 1 comment

2K has a new trailer detailing some of what you can expect when Borderlands 2 newest playable character is released tomorrow. Unfortunately he is not part of the season pass this time around, and will cost 10$ on PS3 and PC or 800 Microsoft Points. I ain’t gonna lie though… He looks pretty damn badass!

This trailer is probably not supposed to be out there until tomorrow, but hey, us at NovaGamer will get you the goods you need!

Enjoy!

Top 10 Boss Encounters

April 4, 2013 4 comments

Hey Gamers,

I was thinking of my all time favorite boss encounters and figured I would do a article. So here it is, my top ten boss encounters. Enjoy!

#10: Gears of War 2 – Rift Worm

Rift

Although the Rift-worm is technically not a boss, I felt it deserved a place on the countdown because of its size and its ability to eat entire cities.  The entire worm level was an absolute blast.  This was likely because it was a bloody mess!  Cutting through the veins and arteries to stop the heart while the chamber is filling with blood was a battle I will never forget!

“First we kill it, then we cut our way out”

#9:Ocarina of time – Volvagia

Volvagia

After playing through OoT again I figured this boss deserved a spot on the post because Volvagia was one of the coolest looking bosses ever.  Even now I think that Volvagia is a bad ass looking dragon that deserves to be mentioned.

#8 Sonic: The Final Hazard

320px-Finalhazard
Speaking of Dragons, does anyone remember the dragon space battle in sonic Adventure?  because I sure do!  It wasn’t an amazing fight, but damn was it hard!

#7 Resident Evil: Lisa

lisat
Holy Crap where do I even start with Lisa?  This was one of my childhood nightmares!  I’ll never forget the build up to this fight! Finding and reading all the journal entries about her mother,  the experiments, and the effects they were having was horrifying. Then when you finally face her for the first time in the cabin, and then again at her mothers coffin…wow the chills are still running down my spin just thinking about this!  Lisa has used fear to permanently embed her self in my top 10 memorable boss encounters.

#6 Street Fighter II: M.Bison

SSF2T_M._Bison

M. Bison makes the cut because it was always such an accomplishment to take him down at the end!

#5 Diablo: Diablo

“Not even death can save you from me”

D2

Where do I even begin with Diablo? As a child, and even now I have faced Diablo countless times, on many different difficulties…and I still keep going back for the pain and torment that he puts me through!

#4 Borderlands 2: Handsome Jack

“I’m rackin’ my brain trying to think of a name of that diamond pony I bought. I was gonna call it ‘piss-for-brains’ in honor of you, but that just feels immature. Maybe ‘Butt Stallion’? Nah, that’s worse. Tell you what, I’ll give it some thought.”

Handsome Jack is one of the most evil, diabolical, masterminds I have ever met in a game.  His character was so well done that you loved him! He was funny and witty…but evil!  I felt so guilty laughing at some of the things he would come up with!  So naturally he makes it into the top 5!

#3 Bioshock Infinite: Lady Comstock

Thefirstladyofcolumbia

First Lady Comstock was an absolute terror to face in Bioshock infinite.  Although technically more of a mini boss, the description of her existence was so terrifying and well written that it will be hard to forget. “Dead, to die, will be dead, its all the same”

#2: Portals: GLaDOS

We can put this behind us for science…you monster”

portal-glados

GLaDOS was never a challenging boss, but the commentary and Personality puts her in # 2 for Best boss encounters

#1 Borderlands 2 -Sir Hammerlock’s Big Game Hunt : Professor Nakayama

Prof

Professor Nakayama is the final boss encounter of the Borderlands 2 DLC Sir Hammerlock’s Big Game hunt.  He was absolutely obsessed with Handsome Jack and completely lost it when the Vault Hunter killed him.  To replace the Giant hole in his heart he attempted to clone him.  Motives aside Professor Nakayama was my absolute favorite boss encounter for one reason…The final encounter.  Now Big Game Hunt was kind of slow, and not really worth playing though…Except for this final fight.  So for those of you that have not finished and do not plan to enjoy this video clip!

That is it for now!

Gaming On The Go

October 27, 2012 Leave a comment

Well the time has come, tomorrow I leave for Nigeria for 4 weeks. So I figure this is a prime time to start “Gaming on the Go”, a section where we can talk about handheld, mobile, and other forms of gaming entertainment while on the run.

I’ll start this off by mentioning how disappointed I am with PC gaming while on the go. I have never really been a huge PC gamer, but figured with my line of work it wouldn’t hurt to build my PC library…. Right? WRONG!! I am finding more and more single player games need an active internet connection to start, and some need a constant connection just to play. Like Diablo 3 for example… A rant for another time! I know the reason for this but come on people! There are such places in this world where there is no internet, no cell phone service, and no way of getting on the grid. Now I know some of you are thinking “Well Mark, maybe you should enjoy the fact that you are miles away from civilization, in strange places around the world,” but alas, I am a gamer and need my fix! I also know that if I pirate the games I could get around this, but I love this industry and want to support it! But enough on that rant and on to what I have been playing on the go.

I’ll start with an iPad app I just got hooked on called “Tapped Out”. This is yet another social style game, you know the ones I am talking about! However, Tapped out is surprisingly addicting. The goal is to build a city while completing side quests to further your towns level and unlock new buildings, people, and monuments. Oh, did I mention that it takes place in the Simpsons universe? You are left rebuilding Springfield after Homer causes an melt down at the nuclear power plant. You are left with a green field and nothing to do but build. Now like most games of this genre building takes time. It is possible to rush building through the use of doughnuts, but this takes real money. Now that being said it is a free to play game, so spending a few bucks here and there is not so bad! The way I see it is, spend what you think the game is worth! A noteworthy feature is the seasons. Right now it is Halloween in Tapped out universe. This allows you to complete many side quests related to Tree house of Horrors. You can also visit the towns of your friend and vandalize them Bart style by egging the homes and TP-ing the trees! I am curious to see what the next season them brings to the table. So look me up, my Origin name is Cybellin!

With a 14 hour a flight ahead of me I will have plenty of time to kill. This is why I recently picked up the New Super Mario Bros 2 for the Nintendo 3DS. I haven’t played much of this yet but so far it is exactly what I thought it would be. Hours of side scrolling Mario fun. I only have one gripe at this point. Why is it a 3DS title? The 3D doesn’t really add anything to the game, all I have noticed so far is a bit of depth of field. Still it is a very comforting game as it will fix my Mario craving while on the move.

Well that is it for now, my flight is tomorrow and I have yet to pack…mostly due to Tapped Out. Next week I will take a look at Borderlands Legends on the iPad. That’s right Borderlands on the iOS! Stay tuned for my African Adventure, as I slowly game all over the world!

Borderlands Legends Heads To iOS

Looking to take Borderlands on the go? Well, soon you will be able to! Gearbox Software has announced that “Borderlands Legends” will be heading to iPhone and iPad on October 31st!

The game will cost $4.99 on iPhone and $6.99 on iPad. The game will put you back in control of the first 4 characters that appeared in the first Borderlands. First person is out the window with a top down view for Legends. “The Borderlands universe is no longer just a console experience. With intuitive, touch-based commands and slick UI, Borderlands Legends combines the inventory and skill tree management that gamers already love about the franchise with a layer of strategy that is popular on mobile devices,” said 2K about their new adventure.

The biggest difference with Legends is that the player will actually control all four characters at the same time, making strategy even more important in the Borderlands universe.

Not much more information is out there yet, but you won’t have to wait too much longer to get the game in your own hands.

Mechromancer Class Available Now!

October 9, 2012 Leave a comment

Gaige, the Mechromancer is available for download on all platforms as we speak! Gearbox Software’s CEO Randy Pitchford teased everyone yesterday on his twitter account saying “There may be a big surprise from us within the next 24 hours or so. Stay tuned!” Well @DuvalMagic didn’t disappoint when he tweeted this in the wee hours of the morning “So – here’s the surprise, Mechromancer for Borderlands 2 is ready about a week earlier than I promised. Oct 9, all platforms. Woo!”

Those of you who pre-ordered their copy of Borderlands 2 can download the new class for free. However if you did not pre-order your copy you the Mechromancer will run you $9.99 on the PSN or 800 MS Points on Xbox Live. You can check out the Gaige’s skills here with the interactive skill tree on the Borderlands 2 website.

Also take some time and get to know Gaige a little better by listening to her ECHO logs in the videos below.

…As if I needed another reason to play more Borderlands.

Borderlands Random Thought…

Remember this game? I bought this game day one. October 20, 2009 to be exact. Me and my 3 best buddies killed this game. Countless hours, multiple playthroughs, and characters. So, Mark and I (He is working in Australia right now) were online playing some COD Blops, when we got on the discussion of this game. Then thought to ourselves, we need to play this again. So we downloaded the General Knoxx add-on. We haven’t got into it yet, that’s for tomorrow morning. But I booted it up again, and it all came back to me, all its glory. What a fantastic game. The co-op is unreal in this. Developers can learn a lot from this co-op! Playing all of 10 minutes today got me jazzed to what Borderlands 2 could bring.

Well, here’s hoping that this E3 will bring a Borderlands 2 announcement!
